This commercial for the healthy snack food “SoyCarat” from Otsuka Pharmaceutical Company which manufactures, distributes, exports and imports pharmaceuticals, clinical testing equipment, medical equipment, food products and cosmetics.
SoyCarat is a soybean snack, with only 123 kilocalories to a packet, making it a healthy choice for people who want to stay in shape. “Carat” is pronounced the same as KARA — the hugely popular Korean all-girl pop group.
In the commercial, one of the group, Nicole imagines herself fat and dancing with other KARA members. Then she snaps out of it, saying “We are not KARA if I become fat,” and reverts to her usual body shape.
Responses to the commercial on YouTube include: “Oh my god! It’s hilarious!” “Fatty Nicole is really cute. I love KARA.” “She reminds me of a 200-pound beauty!” and so on. Many responses to the commercial seem positive.
